MUSIC FOR THE SOUL

You always remember your first Ozzfest.  It was ten years ago, but it was the best lineup Ozzy and Sharon ever booked.  Some friends and I had the best seats we could get for Type O Negative, Pantera, Marilyn Manson, Black Sabbath, and Ozzy Osbourne himself.  Sure, we sat up on the grass, but that’s where the mosh pit happened!  There were guys in gas masks getting in on it and it got absolutely wild!  They were the best seats we could get and worth every dollar.  Later on, we snuck down into the amphitheater and found some empty seats.  We missed the mosh pit, but it felt great to sit down.  But what made these the best seats ever was that when we put up the Pantera banner we’d been working on for weeks, Phil, the lead singer, saw it and told us it was beautiful.  He said that we should all get free beers, but we were all sixteen-years-old so that wasn’t going to happen.  Still, we got up close enough for him to see us and that was awesome.  It made my whole summer.  We went to other Ozzfests and Pantera concerts and we made other banners, but we never got up that close again.
